Z-Axis

The most severe forces a Soldier faces are in the vertical axis. It is important to consider that an IED / mine blast event is a two phase event- the initial Blast followed by a subsequent slam down. Occupant injury thresholds can be exceeded in both events.

Traditional approaches to Z axis mitigation involved stroking, tuned, non-recoverable systems. If they bottom out, they subject the occupant to dynamic amplification with the resulting occupant injuries. Better systems are recoverable. Call GSS for more information on our blast/ slam down mitigation technologies.

These conditions are tested by both drop tests and lateral sled tests. It is crucial to couple the occupant to the seat by an ABTS seat structure to maximize survivability
